Vacation is over, and it’s time to head back to school. If you’re a freshman from another province and about to start your Bachelor’s or graduate studies at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), this article is for you. I’ll guide you on how to get from Palawan to UPLB.
I’m originally from Palawan and currently studying at UPLB. When I first traveled from Palawan to Laguna, I felt a bit nervous, especially about which transportation options to choose to ensure I arrived safely at my destination. Here, I’ll share my experience and some tips to help you out.
Choosing an Airline
When it comes to airlines, I usually opt for AirAsia or Cebu Pacific because they’re economical, at least in my experience.
Budget Tips:
- To snag a window seat without paying extra, try checking in via online as early as 48 hours before your flight.
- Book your flight on a Wednesday, as it’s often cheaper than other days of the week.
- Purchase your ticket at least a month before your planned departure date.

The Journey from Palawan to UPLB
When you arrive at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), you’ll need to choose transportation based on your budget. If you’re trying to save money, you can take a metered taxi. Another option is to book a Grab Car or a motorcycle taxi like Angkas, Joyride, or Move It. Ask the driver to take you to the Pasay Bus Terminal.

If you decide to take a motorcycle taxi instead of a Grab Car or regular taxi because it’s cheaper and faster, keep in mind that you can only get picked up at the departure area, which might be inconvenient.

At the Pasay Terminal, look for DLTB or LLI buses going to Santa Cruz. Once on the bus, ask the conductor to drop you off at Olivarez Plaza Mall. From there, take a jeepney with a “UP” sign, which will take you directly to UPLB.
Expected Fare Expenses
Expense | Cost (Approx.) |
Flight (Palawan to NAIA) | ₱ 1,500.00 |
Taxi/Grab (NAIA to Pasay Bus Terminal) | ₱ 350.00 |
Bus (LLI/DLTB from Pasay to Olivarez, UPLB) | ₱ 155.00 |
Jeepney (Olivarez to UP) | ₱ 15.00 |
TOTAL | ₱ 2,020.00 |

I hope this guide makes your journey to UPLB smoother and less stressful. Wishing you safe and pleasant travels!
